Miami Open Tennis

Miami Open Tennis 2019 : The headlines from the Miami Open this week are of course focused on the quest of Roger Federer to win his fourth Miami title. The No. 4 seed is in the quarterfinals following his 6-4, 6-2 victory over 13th-seeded Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday, a match delayed a day by rain. But all the talk around Miami Beach’s LGBTQ community has been about what happened before the rains fell on Hard Rock Stadium, when the tournament hosted “Out at the Open,” an event aimed at welcoming the LGBTQ community.

Which brings us to the new facility’s problematic puzzle, the main arena. Constructed inside Hard Rock itself, right on the gridiron, it has three temporary sets of stands that rise straight up from the court and offer a decent view even near the top. The fourth side, though, utilizes the permanent football bleachers, which slope at a low angle away from the court, and quickly take you away from the action. Would it be possible to build a fourth temporary bleacher closer to the court, and not use the football seats? If so, it would improve the atmosphere in the building immensely. While the grounds have been busy, the stadium has rarely been filled with fans, or with the old Key Biscayne energy.

Has the Miami Open shown that tennis can still make it in the big city, and still appeal to team-sports fans? The short answer would seem to be yes; the tournament has been much more appealing than most of us thought possible a year ago. But we won’t know until we see next year’s crowds, and how many first-timers return.

While the attempt to implant tennis inside Hard Rock Stadium has come with flaws, it has also given the sport a grander sense of scale than it’s had virtually anywhere else. Sitting in the football seats, far from the court, I still liked looking up and seeing the towering walls, and thousands of pounds of steel and concrete all around me. For a minute, I could imagine that tennis really did belong there. A fan can dream.

Intentionally or not, the Miami Open has challenged that notion in 2019. Unable to expand or upgrade its facilities in Crandon Park, the tournament has been threatening to move out of town, and maybe out of the country altogether. Instead, the Dolphins’ billionaire owner, Steve Ross, swooped in and brought it to Hard Rock. During the NFL season, the team encouraged its fans to give tennis a try, and many have. Ticket sales are up.

Has the experiment worked? So far, the answer has mostly been yes. Perhaps because the thought of watching tennis in a parking lot was inherently unappetizing, the tournament went all-out to hide that fact. The grounds are filled with fountains, flowers, restaurants, and bars at every turn, and even an art gallery. If you have trouble finding your way around, there are people holding big orange signs that say, “How can I assist you?”

Even better are the outer courts themselves, which were filled to overflowing through the first week. The Grandstand—the second-largest court—is an especially good venue, intimately-scaled and open to everyone. If I were buying tickets to the Miami Open, I’d get whatever reserved seats they have in the Grandstand during the first weekend—over the course of a day and night, you’ll see a lot of big names from up close.

Whatever you do here, though, will come at a higher price than it did on Key Biscayne. Tickets are more expensive, and so is the food—a bottle of water is up to $5. The Miami Herald was particularly incensed by the “rip-off” parking price of $40. I guess it’s a sign that I’ve lived in New York for too long that I didn’t find that number all that surprising, or egregious. From the oversized stadium to the super-sized prices, it can feel as if the US Open has been transplanted to Miami.

As the four pointy corners of Hard Rock Stadium come into view over the horizon, you can forgive a tennis fan for dreaming.

“Are we really going to see our favorite little niche sport in there? In a 65,000-seat steel behemoth, with a canopy that weighs 17,000 tons? In the same arena where the Rolling Stones are going to play next month, and where the 2020 Super Bowl will be held?”

The answer, as you likely know by now, is yes and no. For the last week and a half, tennis has indeed been played in a condensed version of the Dolphins’ home stadium, as well as a beautifully landscaped version of the former parking lot just to its north. It’s all part of the Miami Open’s ambitious move from the “island paradise” of Key Biscayne into the hard heart of the city.

It was a move that came as a shock to most longtime fans in the States. Since the 1980s, tennis has mostly retreated from major-sports arenas in this country, and taken up residence in high-end vacation spots like Indian Wells and Key Biscayne. In the ’70s, the pro game in Texas was staged at monster multi-purpose venues like the Astrodome, and Dallas’s 17,000-seat Reunion Arena; today the state’s ATP event, the U.S. Clay Courts, is held at tiny River Oaks Country Club in Houston. The assumption seemed to be that, outside of the US Open, tennis fans didn’t have much in common with team-sports fans.

Federer vs Shapovalov

Federer vs Shapovalov : Roger Federer will face Denis Shapovalov in Federer vs Shapovalov the Miami Open semi-finals after both players came through Thursday’s Tennis 2019 quarter-finals. Swiss tennis Federer vs Shapovalov master, Roger Federer has made it into the semifinals of the 2019 ATP Miami Open. At this stage of the tournament.

Federer vs Shapovalov Live Stream : How To Watch Miami Open 2019 Tennis Online Free HD TV Coverage

The key to the match was the end of the second set and the beginning of the decider. Shapovalov led 5-1 in the second set, but Tiafoe appeared to have wrangled back the momentum when he brought it back to 5-4. While he did not earn the set, he found a high level of tennis and almost rode the momentum to a break in the Canadian’s first service game of the third set, forcing the lefty to deuce.

But Shapovalov was able to control rallies with his forehand under pressure, escaping that game. And while Tiafoe came up with unbelievable tennis to save the first three break points he faced in the next game, the 21-year-old hit a backhand into the net to give Shapovalov the advantage.

Shapovalov raised his level even higher the rest of the way. And this time, he did not let slip a double-break lead, saving break point as he served for the match before his big lefty serve overwhelmed Tiafoe on match point.

The butterflies will begin to set in for Shapovalov, who will look to deny Federer his pursuit of a fourth Miami title.

“I’ll try to put on some tennis sunglasses so I don’t see him, so I see blurry or something, or I see someone else on the other side,” Shapovalov joked. “I’m going to try to go about it the same way, and I’m really happy with how the week’s gone so far, so I’m just going to go out there, enjoy myself, just have a good time on the court and give it my all.

That’s all I can ask at this point. Obviously Roger is a really tough opponent, so it’s going to be a really difficult match. I’m just happy to have the chance to play him here in the semis.”

Shapovalov and countryman Felix Auger-Aliassime, who advanced on Wednesday, are the first teenagers to reach the Miami semi-finals in the same year since Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray accomplished the feat in 2017, both at 19.

Tiafoe arrived in Miami having lost five of his previous six matches. But the American found the tennis that helped him to the Australian Open quarter-final two months ago, advancing to his first Masters 1000 quarter-final.
NextGenATP Canadian Denis Shapovalov has already made two ATP Masters 1000 semi-finals, beaten Rafael Nadal, and he is now on the verge of the Top 20 of the ATP Rankings. But the 19-year-old knows he’s not perfect, and that’s what could propel him to the next level.

In Miami last year, Shapovalov defeated home favourite Sam Querrey 7-5 in a third set and pointed at his left forearm, yelling “I’ve got ice in my veins!” You’ll never leave a Shapovalov match feeling that he lacked energy, from his high-flying one-handed backhands to celebratory roars after big points.

The teenager’s coach since the back-end of last season, Rob Steckley, has been working alongside Shapovalov’s Mom, Tessa Shapovalova, on harnessing his charge’s emotions during matches. While many times his fire is a great thing, sometimes it isn’t.

The Canadian guaranteed that he would move to a career-high mark inside the Top 20 on Monday after reaching his third ATP Masters 1000 semi-final with a free-swinging 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2 win over the American.

For a place in the final, the left-hander faces three-time champion Roger Federer for the first time after the Swiss outclassed sixth seed Kevin Anderson in straight sets. This was Shapovalov’s third Masters 1000 quarter-final, and the teenager has now been victorious on all three occasions (also 2017 Canada and 2018 Madrid).

“It’s definitely a matchup I have been looking forward to, I think, my whole life,” Shapovalov said with a smile. “It’s going to be a dream come true to play him in such a big event over here, and the stakes are so high, semi-final match of a Masters 1000 against your idol. It’s just a dream come true.”

But it did not come easy against 2018 Delray Beach champion Tiafoe, who scratched and clawed. The clash was entertaining throughout, with both players hitting the fuzz off the ball from the baseline and showing their willingness to swoop into net. But Shapovalov’s forehand was the biggest difference-maker on the Grandstand, and the 19-year-old advanced after two hours and 15 minutes.

“It’s tough in the sense that I wish the best for him, and I love seeing him go deep in tournaments and doing as good as possible. But when you’re on the other side, like, for example today when you win, obviously you feel great. But part of me does also feel kind of bad, just in the sense that he couldn’t go on in the tournament,” Shapovalov said of facing a friend in Tiafoe. ”

I know he deserves it as much as I do. He works so hard. He’s such a great person. But in that sense, it’s definitely tough. But I think once we get on the court, once we start playing, it’s just tennis. We just play our sport. We both try to win.”

He has averaged 85% of first serve points won in his three matches. As a returner you would ask yourself how can you even break the Isner serve? Well, Bautista Agut could have the answer. The Spaniard had never made it past the round of 16 in Miami and that was largely due to the distinct monopoly of the Big Four in the latter stages of the tournament.

He had to take matters into his own hands once again, this time successfully beating Novak Djokovic, the 6-time champion in Miami with a comeback win in three sets. While Isner may be overly reliant on his serve to dig him out of trouble more often than not, he has such a destructive forehand which earns him a lot of free points. Isner will be hard to beat and with all due respect to Bautista Agut, it will be added motivation for the American in avoiding Djokovic.

Packed Tuesday’s schedule at Hard Rock Stadium brings eight men’s singles fourth-round encounters, with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as the leading stars of the day. Before the Serb and the Swiss, the other matches took place in day session and the first quarter-finalists are the defending champion John Isner and the Canadian qualifier Felix Auger-Aliassime.

An 18-year-old has been one of the biggest prospects in the world of tennis in the last couple of years and has already achieved numerous milestones for himself and 2000 generation. Passing two qualifying rounds, Felix scored four main draw wins to book the place in the quarter-final as the first player born in 2000, also the first 18-year-old since Rafael Nadal in 2005!

Super talented prodigy is the youngest Miami quarter-finalist since Andy Roddick in 2001 and the sixth youngest overall at Masters 1000 series after Denis Shapovalov, Michael Chang, Fabrice Santoro, Andy Roddick and Pete Sampras.
Today, Felix took down the 17th seed Nikoloz Basialshvili 7-6, 6-4 in an hour and 36 minutes, fending off six out of eight break points and breaking the more experienced rival thrice to cross the finish line first and book the place in the quarters.

The youngster had 22 winners and 24 unforced errors, leaving Nikoloz on an 18-27 ratio and prevailing with a better performance in the shortest points up to four strokes. The Canadian needed some time to settle into the desired rhythm, repelling three break points in the opening two service games to avoid an early setback, erasing another one at 4-4 with a forehand winner to stay in the opener.

Nikoloz finally found the way to grab a break in the 11th game although it wasn’t to be for him, losing serve in the worst possible moment to set up a tie break that Felix won 7-4 with three mini-breaks after forcing an error from the Georgian.

Carried by this momentum, Felix broke at the start of the second set after a terrible backhand error from Basilashvili who pulled the break back in game six when Auger-Aliassime netted a forehand, leveling the score at 3-3 and extending his chances.

Only eight men remain at the ATP Miami Open and Novak Djokovic will not be among them. The World No.1 suffered another earlier exit than anticipated which has the left the door ajar for another unlikely champion on Sunday. With rain halting play in Tuesday’s round of 16 matches, these are the predictions of the two quarterfinal matches scheduled on Wednesday.

We may have to get used to write the name Felix Auger-Aliassime more often than not. The young Canadian has been a breath of fresh air this year with some outstanding results off late. He is set to crack the Top 50 on Monday, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to do so.

What is even more impressive is that he has reached the quarters as a qualifier beating an in-form Hubert Hurkacz and then the 17th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in his last two matches in straight sets.

His opponent Borna Coric seems to have shaken off a tumultuous start to the year. The Croat suffered an early defeat in Indian Wells which may be a blessing in disguise. Coric will now have the chance to usurp his best performance in Miami if he makes the semis.

On the basis of his displays this week he could have his work cut out again. Auger-Aliassime will be unfazed by the prospect of facing Coric even though it is the Croat who will have big game experience in hand. The 18-year-old tore Stefanos Tsitsipas to shreds in the desert and he is playing such high level tennis which you would not associate to a man his age.

Coric was on the ropes in his first match against Roberto Carballes Baena and if he plays anything close to that he could be in real trouble. Although his level improved, the win over Nick Kyrgios is certainly not a barometer of where his level is at. Auger-Aliassime is on a roll at the moment and I feel this is a very winnable match for him.

If you thought John Isner winning the Miami Open last year was crazy, well, he is on the cusp of doing it for the second straight year. Now, that would be some story. The American has served his way to the quarterfinals without the loss of a set. He has also proven to be the tiebreak King this fortnight winning all five tiebreaks he has played in.

The story of Juan Ponce de León searching for a fountain of youth in Florida may be apocryphal, but this week at the men’s event of the Miami Open, there seems to be something revitalizing in the water.

Felix Auger-Aliassime, an 18-year-old Canadian qualifier, is the youngest man to reach the semifinals in the tournament’s history. His compatriot and friend Denis Shapovalov, 19, will join him in the semifinals after beating the American Frances Tiafoe, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2, in a quarterfinal Thursday evening.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked 57th, booked his spot in the semifinals with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over 11th-seeded Borna Coric on Wednesday night. Coric, 22, was eight years younger than the next-oldest quarterfinalist, but still far more experienced than Auger-Aliassime, who is in the main draw of a Masters event for just the fifth time.

“Playing Borna, who’s been established for a few years now, I definitely didn’t expect to win,” Auger-Aliassime said, adding that he was especially surprised with how he was able to control the second set after a grueling opening set that lasted more than an hour.

“I felt like I had margin over him, had a bit of an edge,” he added. “I just felt really comfortable out there from the first balls.”

Excitement and expectations preceded Auger-Aliassime years before he was ready for the professional tour. He was a highly touted junior by the time he turned 15; his matches on small courts at the 2015 United States Open were swarmed with scouts and sponsors.

His potential, evident then, is clearer now. Like many in his generation, Auger-Aliassime is comfortable on all parts of the court; he hit a particularly convincing sliding forehand volley winner to extend his lead to 2-0 in the second set.

Shapovalov and Tiafoe relished knifing sharply angled drop volley winners during their match Thursday, exchanging a high-five at the net after one particularly sublime shot by Shapovalov.

The on-court flair extends to the normally rote postmatch rituals, too. Shapovalov celebrated a win in Indian Wells, Calif., by rapping several bars in his on-court interview. When Auger-Aliassime signs his initials on the TV camera lens after a win, it at first appears as if he is writing the name of a fraternity someone his age might be pledging: Gamma Lambda Lambda — “ΓΛΛ” — before striking through the letters to create a stylized “FAA.”

Ranked 182nd a year ago, Auger-Aliassime, who grew up in Montreal, broke into the top 100 after reaching the final of the ATP tournament in Rio de Janeiro in February. He is poised to be ranked 33rd on Monday and would crack the top 20 if he wins the title on Sunday.

Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov are the second and third teenagers to reach the Miami Open quarterfinals since 2007, when Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic did (Alexander Zverev did it in 2017). Murray, Djokovic and the eight teenage boys to achieve the feat before them went on to reach the No. 1 ranking and win at least one Grand Slam title. (A 17-year-old Rafael Nadal first beat Roger Federer in Miami, in 2004. He reached the final the next year.)

“Obviously it’s a privilege to be compared to all these great players,” Auger-Aliassime said. “I think it just shows that I’m doing good things, I’m on the right track.

“But, yeah, I think I’m seeing the long term, and right now I’m just enjoying every day, enjoying every match, because you never know what’s going to happen next.”

Auger-Aliassime’s success in Miami comes on the heels of another surprising run by an 18-year-old Canadian: Bianca Andreescu’s title last week in Indian Wells.

As women’s tennis is being lifted by the breakthroughs of young players like Andreescu and Naomi Osaka, men’s tennis has been eagerly awaiting new blood as players in their 30s like Djokovic, Federer and Nadal continue to dominate the tour.

“You have a lot of newcomers with talent gunning for them, and every week it feels like someone new is making a breakthrough and playing well,” said Shapovalov. “I think it’s really healthy to see a couple new stars in the game, and the fans get to watch something new, other than the top four.”

The ATP began a campaign few years ago to highlight its “Next Gen” players; the results have been mixed. While four quarterfinalists in Miami are 22 or younger, the four others are 30 or older.

Zverev, now 21, is ranked third, but has struggled in Grand Slam tournaments. Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, has risen to No. 10, spurred by a run to the Australian Open semifinals that included a win over Federer.

Shapovalov had his breakthrough moment at the 2017 Rogers Cup in Montreal, beating Nadal, ranked No. 1 at the time, en route to reaching the semifinals as a 17-year-old. He then reached the fourth round at the U.S. Open.

Tiafoe, 21, was in his first Masters quarterfinal, backing up his quarterfinal run at the Australian Open in January.

There is hope that this tournament is further evidence that reinforcements are finally ready to replenish the men’s tour. Tiafoe believes it’s already happening.

“I wouldn’t say we’re ‘Next Gen,’” Tiafoe said. “I think we’re definitely here, knocking on the door to do some good things.”

Auger-Aliassime will face seventh-seeded John Isner, 33, on Friday for a spot in the final. Auger-Aliassime’s record against top players is limited but spotless: he is 5-0 against top-20 opponents.

How Auger-Aliassime’s form will translate into Grand Slam tennis played over best-of-five sets is still an open question. At last year’s U.S. Open, his only main-draw appearance at a major, he retired in the third set of his first-round match against Shapovalov because of heart palpitations.

Federer, 37, remains the oldest player in the draw. He will play his quarterfinal match against Kevin Anderson, 32, on Thursday night.

Federer turned 19 the day Auger-Aliassime was born. Federer said he enjoyed seeing members of the young generation square off against one another, particularly savoring the fourth-round match between Shapovalov and Tsitsipas, which was decided in a third-set tiebreaker.

“I loved seeing them slug it out, and I’m sure they are going to have big matches down the road,” Federer said. “I like when they also have to play each other a little bit, because they don’t look across the net and see a guy ranked whatever it is. It’s just another guy they know from the juniors, and ‘I’m just going to beat you up now.’”

BARTY WINS In a women’s semifinal that was delayed by five hours because of intermittent rain on Thursday afternoon, 12th-seeded Ashleigh Barty reached the biggest final of her career, beating 21st-seeded Anett Kontaveit 6-3, 6-3.

In the final, Barty will face fifth-seeded Karolina Pliskova, who denied the No. 2 seed, Simona Halep, a win that would have returned her to the top world ranking. Pliskova won, 7-5, 6-1. Barty, 22, will make her debut in the WTA Top 10 on Monday.

If he continues to score in double digits, Williamson would end his college career with 10 or more points in every game he played in, except for the February 20 contest against North Carolina in which he exited in the opening minute with an injury. The Canadian has hit the double-digit mark in every game he’s played in.

Barrett started the NCAA tournament with 26 points and 14 rebounds against North Dakota State, and he followed that up 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists versus UCF.

While it will be upsetting for the teams selecting second and third to miss out on Williamson, they’ll still end up with a solid consolation prize in Barrett, who should be considered alongside Murray State’s Ja Morant for the No. 2 overall pick.

Barrett was the consensus No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft class in preseason polls, but he is expected to take a back seat to his college teammate on draft night.

Coby White, North Carolina

A few players can make the case for being the best non-Duke player left in the tournament, and while North Carolina’s Coby White might not be the first name entered in the discussion, he has the potential to go the furthest in the tournament of the players in that category.

The freshman guard used his 21-point performance against Duke in the ACC regular-season finale as a springboard for a strong postseason. White’s delivered significant contributions in most of the major stat categories in the ACC and NCAA tournaments, and he comes into the Sweet 16 with 27 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in the Big Dance.

If the Tar Heels continue to benefit from their rampant offensive pace, we’ll get at least two more opportunities to watch White on the collegiate stage.

The most important matchup for White this weekend could come in the Elite Eight against a Kentucky team with a few potential first-round picks on its roster.

If White is able to shine against other elite prospects, his stock should continue to rise as he looks to become a top-10 pick in June. The 2018-19 NBA season will end on April 10 (April 11, PHL time) with the NBA Playoffs set to begin on April 13 (April 14, PHL time). Between now and the end of the regular season, teams are still jockeying for playoff positioning and seeding. The top five guys on the true shooting percentage list are the same as the top five on the effective field goal percentage list. But Pascal Siakam rises from 21st on the eFG% list to sixth on the TS% list, thanks to a big jump in free throw rate, which also helps De’Aaron Fox and Spencer Dinwiddie.

Four names are on both the true shooting percentage list and the PRA per-36 list: Fox, Gallinari, Sabonis and Siakam.

Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, ranks 34th on the true shooting percentage list, having seen a jump from 59.8 percent to 64.2 percent. George ranks 77th (57.0 percent to 58.6 percent).

Rebounding numbers were included in the basics above. But here’s a closer look at the players who have seen the biggest jump in rebounding percentage (the percentage of available rebounds grabbed while on the floor). For most the calculations above, we used a minimum of 20 games or 250 minutes played last season. Those minimums are somewhat arbitrary, but they’re to eliminate small sample sizes that might not illustrate what a player was capable of.

Of course, they also eliminated a few interesting candidates – Thomas Bryant (just 72 total minutes played in 15 games last season), Monte Morris (25 minutes in three games) and Derrick White (139 minutes in 17 games) – if you think that second-year players are worth considering for the Most Improved award.

Louisville head coach Chris Mack voiced his support for Nwora in the release.

“The NBA and the NCAA continue to shape the undergraduate process of determining draft prospects in a more refined way,” Mack said. “I fully support Jordan as he tests the draft waters on where he stands in his basketball future. When the time comes to make his decision it will be with feedback straight from the source, the NBA.”

Nwora led Louisville in scoring and rebounding this season (17.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg) and was voted the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Most Improved Player. The Cardinals ended their season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. According to a report from Jonathan Givony of ESPN, Louisville sophomore wing Jordan Nwora will declare for the 2019 NBA Draft. Nwora, who was named the ACC’s Most Improved Player in 2019, has left the door open to return to school, though.Nwora was also named third team All-ACC this season, too. Prior to the 2018-19 season, Nwora was one of my players to watch.

Under first-year head coach Chris Mack, Louisville went 20-14 this season and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Minnesota. For the first time since 2015, the projected No. 1 pick in the NBA draft will participate in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Duke’s Zion Williamson has exceeded the lofty expectations set for his freshman season, and now he’s looking to complete the 2018-19 campaign with a national championship.

If Williamson ends the NCAA tournament with a title, he’d be the first No. 1 pick to come into the NBA off a title-winning season in college since Anthony Davis in 2012.

While the Duke forward is the main attraction at the NCAA tournament in the eyes of NBA followers, there are plenty of other potential lottery picks still alive in the competition.

Barring an unexpected decision by the NBA team with the No. 1 pick, Williamson will become the fourth Duke player selected first overall, and he’d be the first since Kyrie Irving went to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2011.

The Cavaliers have a decent chance of landing another Duke star, as they are one of the three worst teams in the NBA.

However, the most intriguing landing spot for Williamson is the New York Knicks, who possess the worst record in the NBA. A generational star like Williamson landing in New York and playing at Madison Square Garden is the dream scenario for the Knicks, and for the NBA as a whole.

But the Knicks are far from a lock to land the power forward since the chances to land the No. 1 pick for the three worst teams are now level at 14 percent.

Since his return from injury at the start of the ACC tournament, Williamson’s put up five 20-plus point performances and recorded a trio of double-doubles.

In addition to making an impact on the glass, he tied his season high for three-pointers Sunday, as he hit three shots from beyond the arc in the second-round win over UCF.

The Charlotte Hornets are proud to have the opportunity to participate in the first NBA regular-season game in Paris,” said Hornets Chairman Michael Jordan. “Having played in the preseason in France during my career, I witnessed first-hand the passion the French fans have for NBA basketball. We are excited to bring our team to Paris for this history-making event.”

The NBA Paris Game 2020 Presented by beIN Sports will mark the second time the Hornets have played in the French capital, coming 25 seasons after the team played a preseason game against the Golden State Warriors on October 18, 1994. The game will be the NBA’s 10th at the AccorHotels Arena since 1991 and the 11th in France all-time.

Nwora announced his decision in a caption posted on Instagram, writing in part, “Looking forward, I have decided to test the NBA draft waters. I am excited to receive feedback from the teams. With my strong Louisville foundation, I am excited for the future. Whatever happens, I am a Card for life.”

Nwora will take steps to maintain his college eligibility while undergoing evaluation by NBA teams, he said in a release sent out by Louisville on Thursday.

“Because of the ability to test the waters without losing eligibility, it seems like the perfect opportunity for me to try out with NBA teams and get feedback from them directly regarding my strengths and weaknesses,” Nwora said in the release. “If the feedback is positive, I would stay in the draft. If the feedback indicates I should return to school for continued development, then that’s what I will do. Either way, it is a positive experience that will allow me to find out what specifically NBA teams want me to improve to enhance my draft stock, whether it is for this year or next year.”If Nwora isn’t drafted, he can return to Louisville so long as he notifies the university by the Monday after the draft.

According to new NCAA rules effective this year, Nwora can hire an agent if he requests an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee. He will still be eligible to play in college if he makes a written agreement with the agent and then terminates it when he returns to school.

Nwora has no immediate plans to hire representation, his father, Alex Nwora, told the Courier Journal.

Utah won that series before losing to the Rockets in five second-round games. The Jazz will look to take the next step when the playoffs begin on April 13.

While the Milwaukee Bucks have all but locked up either the 29th or 30th pick in the 2019 NBA draft, determining which prospects might be available is a little more difficult exercise than say in the 2014 NBA draft, when Jabari Parker was ultimately chosen ahead of Joel Embiid and Dante Exum.

A mock draft can be a useful tool for learning more about relevant prospects, along with tying in possible team needs, tendencies, and just a general franchise’s direction, and that’s exactly what we hope to establish on this occasion.Another benefit of a mock draft is that it helps to naturally develop tiers of prospects, such as superstars, All-Stars, starters, role players, backups, etc.

All of those serve their purpose on an NBA team, but at pick No. 30, the Bucks aren’t likely to find the next superstar or All-Star. However, unearthing a role player that can possibly develop into a quality starter isn’t out of the question. Past successful NBA players chosen with the 30th pick include David Lee (2005), Jimmy Butler (2011), Kevon Looney (2015) and Josh Hart (2017).As always, projected standings are based upon FiveThirtyEight’s CARM-Elo rankings. The Golden State Warriors are the clear favorites with a near-invincible starting lineup featuring five players who have made a combined 22 All-Star games.

Former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook and current NBA MVP candidate Paul George lead an Oklahoma City Thunder team that is also stout defensively.

James Harden and Chris Paul form one of the best backcourts in the league for the Houston Rockets, and the same goes for Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum for the Portland Trail Blazers.

But the Jazz could be a thorn in all of their sides thanks to the dynamic duo of center Rudy Gobert and guard Donovan Mitchell.
